My Life with a Moody Pre-Teen

Anyone who knows me well, knows my oldest daughter and I frequently clash. She is blessed with my husband’s stubbornness and my drive for success (i.e., perfectionist tendencies). What a combination! You say the sky is blue and she says “no it’s not!”

In any case, I decided that writing down some of our encounters might be cathertic, so here goes. This occurred in our home at 7:30am today:

Daughter: It’s picture day, will you help me pick out clothes?

Mom: Sure. How about these capris?

Daughter: They aren’t very nice.

Mom: Oh, I think they are nice.

Daughter: Not that nice, most girls wear dresses.

Mom: OK, how about we pick out a dress then?

Daughter: I don’t want to wear a dress!

Mom: OK, so how about these nice capris and this shirt?

Daughter: I always wear that shirt!

Mom: OK, how about this other shirt?

Daughter: I always wear that shirt too!

Mom: You have 30 shirts, you can’t possibly wear all of them.

Daughter: Even if I only wear one a month, that means I wear each shirt 8 or 9 times each school year! Unacceptable!

Mom: No one notices when you wear a shirt one month or the next.

Daughter: I notice when you wear your shirts over and over again… not good.

Mom: OK. I’m done. See you downstairs in whatever you decide to wear.

Daughter: Ugh! You sure give up easily. Thanks a lot! (said with as much drama as one pre-teen girl can muster)

Design*Sponge

Decorative Window FilmsI think it’s about time I shared one of my favorite web sites. I feel a bit guilty for keeping it to myself for this long! It’s called Design*Sponge, and is a frequently updated blog covering all sorts of different creative design topics. My favorite sections are called DIY and Before and After. I have gotten so many fabulous ideas from perusing the endeavors shown in these pages. One of my favorite DIY projects created decorative window films (shown right) – just what I needed to give a little privacy to my front door!

What You’ll Need (for the project shown right):
1. contact paper, clear (this is for lining drawers, you can find it at hardware or drug stores)
2. ruler
3. scissors or exacto
4. paint pen
5. tape

Read the details for the decorative window film project.
