6 weeks post-PRK

20/20Now that I’m six weeks out, I can finally say “why didn’t I do this sooner?!”

Seriously, it was SOOO worth it! I had a physical last week and was told my left eye is 20/15!! and my right eye is 20/25!! I’m still healing, so my right eye will get a bit better before all is said and done.

I have no red eye or major dryness. And I’ve finally gotten to the point where I don’t try to take my contacts out every night (although I do stop and wonder a couple times each week). It is truly amazing.

So for anyone considering PRK surgery, I definitely recommend it. However, be sure to do your homework first, understand the lengthy recovery period, and plan accordingly. In the end, if your experience is anything like mine, you’ll LOVE your new eyes!

Wendy -I had PRK on April 30th. Boy I wish I would have found your blog before I had the surgery. I am so depressed about my recovery time. Your blog is the only thig I have found to explain what I am going through. It helps to know that my case is not unique but I would take my contacts back in a second. My doctor just keeps tellig me to hand in their and be patient. But like you said they no way came near to explaining what it would be like. They emphasized the longer recovery period over Lasik only stressing the first 4-5 days. Luckily I just moved to seattle with my husband and have not looked for a job yet so not having a life is helpgful yet adds to the blues I am experiencing. i am just a very active person and this inconstatnacy in my eye sight is really difficult. Today was very bad I could hardly see. But this weekend I had long periods on good sight. It’s the regression that gets me.
And no matter what happens during the day the evenings are very bad.
How long was it before you could drive? I drove a few times when I had some good periods. But I really can’t go far from my house as it will only last an hour or so.
I pray I get to where you got after 6 weeks but honestly if it is six weeks before it happens I think I will go stir crazy!

Anyway thanks for your blog. Every PRK patient should see it. There is really not that much stuff about PRK except from Fighter Pilots. I’m guessing you are not one!! Cindy

Cindy – I’m so glad my journal has helped someone! (And no, I’m not a fighter pilot :-)

You’re right – it is a long recovery process and you’re only about 10 days out at this point, correct? So you’ve got a little bit to go still, but it WILL get better! Luckily, I work at home and didn’t need to drive a whole lot in the first month. I can walk to my daughters’ school even. I did not drive at all in the first two weeks, but then was able to navigate short distances to my eye doctor and the grocery store and church. That was about it, and each of those places are within 1-2 miles of my house. It was probably about 4-5 weeks before I drove any sort of distance.

Let me know how you progress!
